GREEN OVAL SHAPED BOWL WITH SWIRL EFFECT RIPPLE PATTERN
« on: January 24, 2010, 09:10:27 PM »
A beautiful green bowl with a tint of blue. measuring approx. 19.3cm at longest point and 11.7 at shortest point. Height 8.6cm.   The bowl is extremely heavy for it's size.  There is wear to the base of the vase due to age and size.  Looks similar to Bowls made by Murano, but can't be sure as this particular bowl has a ripple effect running diagonally around the bowl. Can anyone I.D this please?

Looks more Czech, Skrdlovice, to me, but the colour makes me uncertain. Is Jindrich around?

Perhaps this recently finished ebay auction is the same?  It certainly isn't  Whitefriars, nor Sky Blue, as seller was advised.........thank goodness it didn't achieve a Whitefriars Sky Blue price level!!!!!

Not sure about the ebay item, I would not think of it as Skrdlovice.  But this GMB member bowl looks like a definite Beranek pattern probably by Jaroslav Beranek. He designed pieces, over several years at least, that were later collected to form the "Andromeda" range. However, other relatives within the factory made some (wonderful) similar patterns at the same time. GMB member Jindrich can probably confirm, deny or clarify a little further! To demonstrate the similarity of designs this attached image is probably also a Beranek bowl-jardiniere probably not Andromeda. It is 31cms, 18cms, 10 cms. I have an Andromeda bowl-jardiniere that is more typical in colour, dark blue-green-clear, that is 40cms. I like all the Beranek family output I have seen from this period, all of them had a lot of talent. The colour of the GMB member bowl is unusual but sometimes different mixes of colours made for lighter-darker productions on different days or months and unusual colours do happen especially with the 1950's production era,

Hi! Robert,  Thanks for you info.  Have you got a base picture?  The reason I ask is that mine is a polished base and show a lot of signs of wear and tear, due to weight.  Now looking at it in different light, you an also see a tint of blue gradually working it's way to the top of the vase.  Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm!  I must say, it is an unusuat piece and to be honest not seen one like this or simialr ::)
