old weight! but who made it??
« on: January 19, 2010, 04:52:21 PM »
Hi all, this weight has a rough unpolished pontil, a good amount of wear to the base and weighs 590g. It is 8cm diameter across the base and is 5cm tall. Could it be Gillinder? The only reason I say Gillinder is because the few Gillinder millefiori weights I have seen all had the central large cog cane.

When Alan (tropdevin) next looks in here I am sure he will give a better comment than me. But for now I will say the weight is "Old English".

Hi Ian

Kev is correct that it is Old English, and I'm 99% sure it is a Richardson weight.  The weight uses their style of canes (no complex rebundled canes), and typical of their colours.  If you look at the short guide to Old English weights on my website there is a picture of a Richardson concentric with a large centre cane rather like yours has.
