Topic: large thin glass vase ?

the photo is rather decieving

there are five layers of circles and they go
around the glass in an orderly manner
if that makes any sense
not like in the pic ie not randomly

with vertical controlled bubbles by po strom alstefers

I'd be HUGELY surprised if either your vase or the one on eBay are by PO Stom for Alsterfors - for starters I understand PO Strom always signed his pieces and neither of these items look to be his style (although I could be wrong of course).  All the PO Strom pieces I've had were cased, in funky shapes and colours and signed.  The eBay auction you reference actually says 'A vase which is obviously from the same series appears on the whitefriarswannabee blogspot and is ID'd as a Po Strom design for Alsterfors, (although I can't confirm that attribution).' this is a vague attribution and does not prove that either vase is Alsterfors.   eBay descriptions are notorious for being spurious at best, totally and utterly misleading and incorrect at worst.

Hello Kieran,

I'm afraid that you're not comparing like with like here. Your vase has what appears to be, and you say are, ground circles as decoration, whereas the vase on eBay (which is NOT by Pro Strom) is decorated with internal regular air bubble decoration. It is S&W/Royal Brierley, and the blogspot will be changing the Alsterfors attribution (if they haven't already).

I would say your piece was retailed fairly recently through T K Maxx, since I saw them there only last year!

Now for a sweeping 'catch all' statement - a warning for all glass buyers/collectors in the UK, question anything that is modern and large, since more often than not these days it will have passed through the doors of T K Maxx. I go there regularly to keep an eye on what is going to appear at the fairs and at auction. That is not to say that they are not attractive or don't have value, rather it will take a long time for the market to decide what secondary value they have. They are therefore only worth whatever the eye of the beholder wants to pay.

T K Maxx tends to sell a lot of glass from China, India, Romania and Poland, although there are other sources.

It's certainly not Frank Thrower for Dartington and the fact that you say it's thin doesn't suggest modern Dartington either

Thanks to you Nigel for looking, I have changed the P O Strom attribution to that vase, which was (I thought) reliably given to me.........hey ho!  It's all about learning isn't it. So apologies to anyone who may have been decieved......it was no way deliberate.
