Strange paperweights on plinths.
« on: February 10, 2010, 03:51:31 PM »
Hi, don't quite know what to make of these, tallest is 22cms and they're all really heavy.   I have seen some recently on ebay, new for £15.  These look rather more complex, especially the round one, don't know age but judging by the dust and surface wear they're certainly not brand new.

Any info much appreciated whatever, I can take it on the chin, not saying what I paid for them though  :-\

Hi Gill,
they are pretty recent, ive seen them sold new in charity shops like the British Heart Foundation,
and at several antiques markets, homeware shops etc.
They are very pretty and well made, i expect they originate from China.
Cheers

Hi, Cant identify them for you but they are very nice. Just a warning about displaying them in a window especially one where the sun can shine on them.
Regards Mike

Hi
i havent seen one like the one in the middle before but the 2 outer ones i see quite regularly im afraid, infact i had somebody bring me one identical to the one on the right on sunday hoping i could identify it for them and tell them it was worth more than the £25 they paid  :-X.
I would have to agree with andy that they are more than likely chinese

These are not exactly the same ones I've seen, but they're turning up in antiquey places everywhere - and I've seen the same ones as I've seen in the antiquey places in TKMaxx, with Made in China labels on them.
Some of them are really rather lovely - very decorative indeed.

Thanks everyone, China did cross my mind, I think the round one is better than the others.  Just out of interest I was just in the room waving a UV light around and they all had a bright green reaction if that means anything.

Support the uv light on something - anything that is stable. Support the camera on something else. Take the photo.  ;D
