Help ID Beranek paperweight please

(1/1)

amoilvetro:
Hi all

Could anyone shed some light on this Beranek paperweight we bought last weekend?

It is quite unusual, the beady (for lack of a better word) part at the top becomes an intense gold when light of any kind shines upon it... sort of like a golden broccolli *lol* When there is no light, it looks exactly like broccolli florets (a veggie fetish here? hmm lol)

Measures approx 12cm diameter and has a white, round sticker on the side, with the following in green:

CZECHOSLOVAKIA
[Beranek ram's head logo]
BERANEK - HAND MADE

Any info on age, maker, etc would be great!

Also, any idea on how to remove old sellotape remains from glass would be appreciated.

Cheers, Amanda.

There is a wonderful product called - very 'to the point' - "Sticky Stuff Remover".  It is fantastic for removing old selotape, the residue from sticky labels, glue, sticky plasters, chewing gum, tar, etc., etc.

It is made from citrus oils by a company called Orange Sol Inc. under the registered trade mark 'De Solv. It' and marketed in the UK by Mykal Industries Ltd. in Wellingborough, Northants.

HTH   :D

A very common household product works wonders for taking away tape and label residue. Good old nail polish remover. Then just spritz your glass item with some glass cleaner and shine it up with a cotton cloth or paper towel.

Never immerse a paperweight - especially an old one - in water. Extreme temperatures - either hot or cold - can cause fissures similar to annealing cracks within the weight.

Hope this helps you out.
