How big is yours?
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:37:30 PM »
After watching the video in Michelle's thread - http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,31630.0.html - about the 100lb paperweight, it inspired me to weigh my Magnum Mdina and it came in at 4lb 14oz (2.21 kg).  I don't want to start a competition for the biggest, just wondered if there were many around that were of this sort of size, regardless of maker.

Hiya Suzy :-*

Here's my 5lbs 1oz fabby Mdina doorstop,
(next to a piddling plain little controlled bubble wf one of only 1lb 10.5oz, for size comparison)

Tiddlers indeed, seen a Vasart 'family' doorstop that was... Massive, but what are yours in inches? The normal unit for comparisons of ''How big is yours?"   :-[ With apologies to the majority in the world that use metric.

Hi Frank,
The doorstop is 6.5" tall, but as you can see, it has a round handle-y bit on top. I wasn't sure how much this counts (- hence the comaprison with another, smaller, weight by a different manufacturer which has a similar feature. I could have chosen a much smaller weight than that, but I felt the handle-y feature was relevant.)
The Mdina doorstop is 15" in diameter. I don't know whether other weights are made of lead crystal, as I'm sure this would affect weight, but my doorstop is not.

:o  I've never seen, or even heard of, an Ysart doorstop!
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

The variation in shape would give difference in height, variations in materials would give difference in weight as would bubbles, so that's why I didn't want to start a competition, just want whoppers!

My Mdina isn't lead crystal, 15"/38cm dia.

Sue, love the Tiger door stop, fabulous markings!!!  One of my favourite Mdina ranges.

jp it always makes laugh how elastic men's inches are! Or do they just mix up inches with centimetres?  :24:

No just millimeters.  ;D

Speaking of which, are you two Ladies getting your diameters and circumferences mixed up? 15 inches in diameter is enormous, I just can't compete. :D
