Topic: Glass Decanter with Silver and Cork Stopper

This is an old decanter.  It is the first time that I have come across one like this.  I am not sure whether it is meant to be a wine decanter.  The bottle looks old as it is off coloured and not very clear as can be seen by the pictures.  Towards the top part of the decanter there is a large clear triangle shape measuring 10cm at the base and the two sides 8cm.  The overall height of the decanter with stopper is 30cm.  The concave pontil measure 4cm dia. There is also approx 3 lines on the base that start off straight from the pontil then curl around the bottom sides of the decanter.  I thought they were cracks at first but they stand proud and are smooth.  There is some information on the bottom but there is a letter that is unclear.  The info. reads REGDON with a little degree sign just above and to the right of the N. At the bottom of this 735122 and then 94L5.  The 5 could be an S.  I am not sure.  The top of the decanter measures 2.5cm dia. and the base measures 6cm dia.  The silver design at the top of the cork reads Happy Anniversary.  I am not sure if the stopper is part of the decanter as the stopper looks quite modern whereas the decanter looks quite old.  Can anyone identify this please.   Kind Regards

735122 is likely to be the registration mark/number. It is not in the Glass Association 'Blue Book' on the subject.

I agree with Frank that the glass appears to be mould blown. You don't mention a silver mark, so I assume that is just referring to the colour, since this sort of glass is unlikely to have a solid silver stopper.

Design dates from Feb / March 1928, but like Nigel I have no idea who it was registered by. Bottle production date could be a lot later than the registration date as many designs were made for a good many years after they were registered.

The bottle is discoloured (yellowish).  There is no clear markings on the silver part of the cork stopper other than that the silver part is heavy and soft when scraped with a sharp object.  It does not appear to be plated at all.  The silver part is covered in little roses.  does anyone know what type of metal this would be?  Thanks for comments and interest.

Probably a Nickel alloy. Bottle might not be discoloured, try rubbing the base rim with wire wool. If it comes off it has also been coated. Container finishing technology is a whole other ball game that is delightfully fascinating to very few, yet.

I have tried rubbing the base with wire wool Frank, but nothing comes off.  It definately is not coated.  Thanks for your tips too!
