Glass Dachshund seeking ID

(1/3) > >>

Lily of the Valley:
This little dachshund appears to be asking who he is!  He was 'adopted' a very long time ago, most likely in Italy, so that is why he is starting his journey here.  Being almost 3-3/4 x 1-1/2 inches, when he poses for photos it's difficult to get both ends in focus at the same time! ;)  Can anyone help him?

TxSilver:
It is a well-made dog with good feet. It is small, though, so could be a lampwork piece from almost anywhere. The glass color is most common for animals made in Italy or Taiwan. How long have you had it personally? The glass reminds me of my 1.5" tall Murano tiger. My tiger has a Murano label, but I'm not sure if the label means anything other than someone put it there.  ;) My tiger is well made, too, but small.

Lily of the Valley:
Hi, Anita, thank you for taking a look at my little dog.  He has been in my personal possession for upwards of 25 years.  He came to me from my parents who lived and traveled throughout Italy in the mid-1950's.  As far as I can tell he is one piece of glass with the exception of the eyes perhaps.  The color is quite clear and clean.  He is smooth to the touch with the exception of his ear tips which have a slightly roughened feel from what appear to be purposefully-made lines.  Your wonderful 'Murano Zoo' inspired me to take a closer look and ponder his pedigree. ;)

My best .... Lily :)

TxSilver:
It sounds like, given the history, your dog has a good chance of being Italian. Most of the Taiwanese pieces I've seen in this color have been recent. The Taiwanese animals are very good -- better than a lot of the things that have come from Murano.

I looked around for some daschunds in amber. I found a few, but none were as nice as yours. I'll keep my eyes open. Maybe your daschund and my tiger have a common Murano origin?

Lily of the Valley:
I'd love to see some photos of your Murano Tiger .... :)
