I thought I had done a search on flamed pontils  -  obviously mis-read the search ;D
couple of Essex girls sitting out on the park bench one clear evening, and one says to the other.   "I wonder which is the nearest, the moon or Cornwall.......and her friend replies.........Halloooooo - can I see Cornwall?    :D

I have to confess, it was reading the bit you put in about flamed pontil marks that gave me the "proper" name for the heat finished base this has - (that's the expression I'd have used before) so, no, this thread would not have come up while you were searching for it before, it wasn't here!
