Help to identify please
« on: May 04, 2010, 04:24:29 PM »
Can anyone please tell me anything about glass that is "branded"  DARRIUS ZARRIN

The Darrius and Zarrin are inverted in a lozenge ( see pic)

I bought this huge vase from a French Auction having seen another one of these in a French Catalogue a couple of years ago.  However, I cannot find anything about this make anywhere.  It is obviously great quality as there are layers of coloured glass that is then etched away to leave wonderful swirled patterns.

I would be most grateful if anyone knows anything about the maker.  thanks.  MARKUS

hi there
sorry cant help at all, but it may help to add a couple of pictures of the vase itself, also add the makers name to the subject line that way if somebody does know they will see it straight away. Im not sure if you can add it on now, if not hopefully one of the mods may pick it up and add it on for you
hope you find out soon
all the best
michelle

It is true that Zarin is an Iranian name but not sure about the double R.

This is my vase - 45cm tall - weighs a tonne as it is very thick with all the layers. Some areas are applied and others feel cut out.

I'm distinctly dubious about the pare de verre in the French auction link

Don't worry it is just French colloquial usage - everythig is "pâte-de-verre" - pressed glass, opaque glass - just everything.  It is used the way the Brits use "whitefriars" or the Dutch use "Leerdam" ...
