Smokey Colored Ashtray - Big Ball Beading
« on: May 15, 2010, 11:38:03 AM »
Hi there:
Did not know how to describe this piece....so did my best.  I am guessing here that this might be from around the 70's era.  I know I promised to quit guessing -- but I remember these, so that is why I am saying the 70's.  Anyone know who did?  Is it Arcoloa too maybe?  I see no marks....<I forgot to measure it, but I am off to bed now as it is 5;32 a.m.>

Thanks in advance... :kissy:

Hi Rose...  I love the name you gave your pictures -- GLASS ASHTRAY BALLS...  :24:  :24:  :24:

I don't think I've ever seen glass ashtray balls before...  :24:  :24:  :24:  :24:

Lol....well I tried to make it descriptive.....and now you have.

This is kinda neat I think -- and *Ashtrays* are a collectible too.  Here is a link to some glass ashtrays, but did not see this one in there:  http://www.bigashtray.com/store/category/azy9/Glass.html

That site also shows some Murano ones too.....a

Hi Antiquerose, see this: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,32917.msg178238.html#msg178238  ;)

I hope someone would know anything about these? Was kinda hoping/waiting if someone would confirm if they have anything to do with Sklo Union...

I've used mine for large tealights.  The "balls" make a nice reflection in the table from the light! Love them! :)

The piece is Czech and quite common here.
It is possible that Brabec's mould had been customised for technological reasons, ribs could complicate fabrication. It is known that it has happened to some Vizner's pieces, factory has modified his design without not only asking for permission but also without informing designer at all.

 :hi: there:

Just thought I would add these pics to this post, as I have found a couple *other*examples of these Big Ball Beading Ashtrays that also *look* like the one here I posted:

Retro Nova Boopie Ashtray:

Anchor Hocking Nova Ashtrays:

I can't tell the difference in the looks of them -- they all look the same to me  :thud:
