Borske Sklo Large Olives again
« on: May 22, 2010, 02:52:31 PM »
Another vase I assume, although would make a good a 'goldfish bowl'.    Would certainly appear to be another example of the Borske Sklo 'Large Olives' design, but not a shape that I can see either on the internet or in my books, so maybe a little more unusual.     Not pink, and has a very delicate amethyst tinge, which can just about be seen in one of the pictures - or might it be Neodymium.   Guess I need to hold it up to the flourescent light later tonight.   About 220mm high.    A rather 'roughish' mould blown base, and with a fair amount of wear on the outer rim.    Would be very grateful if someone like Jindrich might confirm, and perhaps there is a pattern no. available please, and I'm thinking 1950's.   My thanks as always for looking.

Lucky Paul,
seems to me you have purchased documented piece Borske sklo 7963/8" from 1958, Glasrevue 1959/11 page 17 (german version).

I would not expect any fluorescent perfomation under UV. However I do not understand why the base is unperfect.

Jindrich  -  my sincere thanks for your very quick and informative reply - and must admit I am also mystified regarding the rather poor quality base.   There are some very small pieces of broken glass (frit?) which have become welded into the main metal.   Possibly it was a reject example?   Actually, I think it looks more attractive than the ordinary pink - and thanks again for your help.     Paul S.
P.S.  May I request please that the mods. move to the appropriate section.
