Topic: Chinese or not ... ?

Hi, Wuff.  I would say modern Chinese based on the irregular and unpolished base.

Hi there.....
Since this is a post about Chinese PW, I thought I would post this one here.  Now we all know that this one is Chinese, but for a untrained eye ( :spls2:) Newbies could be fooled....I had another pic here that I wanted to post but can't find it right now............will hunt for it yet....it was a mess of a PW..

Now comparing them to Murano I do see GREAT DIFFERENCE of sooooooooooo much better work.  But for some newbies, I think this one could fool a newbie.....Right

I wouldn't be so sure about modern Chinese. It's not like anything appearing here in the UK: the canes are more complex, the canes are over splotches and although the base is matte and irregular it doesn't look as flat ground as they usually do (and I don't mean the scar remnants).

Definitely Chinese. Colors, base, cane setting - very typical.

It is Chinese, I think from the 1970s - 1980s.

As for newbies getting fooled, look at the Chinese weights below - some are much less obviously Chinese than others!

Alan, I really like your collection of Chinese millefiori weights ..... especially the little pink one in the lower right-hand corner of the photo! :mrgreen:

In support of Alan's 1970's id of the one beginning this thread, there is a photo in Pat Reilly's, Paperweights - The Collector's Guide to ...... on page 20 that looks a lot like the one in question.
