Jurnikl for Sklo Union fans
« on: June 05, 2010, 02:58:45 PM »
Hi Sklo friends,
I purchased absolutely unique vase today.
Developed from pattern Rudolf Jurnikl, Rudolfova huť - 13292 / 1970 (see page 65 of Newhall' Sklo Union book - www.sklounion.com) by hot forming after pressing. A lovely Juurnikl's joke.  :D

I will place more pictures to my web soon.

Jindrich

Interesting...  Although, if I can be honest, the original shape was better   :)  (The 'new' version looks too much like some of my Polish glass  :spls:)

Thanks for this, Jindra!

Would this have been formed by swinging?

Marcus shows another example of a variant vase formed by swinging like this in Sklo Union Art Before Industry (top of page 133 for those who have a copy). Marcus states that a vase which starts out of the mould at 200 or 250mm can be swung to twice that length. He also says that every one will be unique as the swinging process produces something slightly different in every example, and that "these items are relatively uncommon."

One question: Where has the round base gone during this process?

The base was standard "bird bath" originaly, than cut and polished

Thanks Jindrich! I couldn´t make out from the pictures. Similar process was serially used
by Schwepnitz BTW. I wonder, if it started as a ´joke´ or experiment as well...

The one in Marcus' book has the same base as the non-swung version. I'm rather surprised at the idea of cutting off the base and polishing it flat, wouldn't that be very uneconomical? (and possibly leaky?)

Anne, I'm guessing that's because you'd have to reattach some sort of cup punty to swing it, and it would leave a jagged edge when it was removed?
