FAKE Signature Seguso
« on: November 05, 2004, 11:41:03 PM »
Hi,

I'm placing this query on behalf of a friend who purchased this vase in good faith believing it to be a signed Archimede Seguso.

From my own point of view it has all the hallmarks of our little friend 'chrism121' all over it (she didn't buy direct from eBay, unfortunately). In particular the way it's been untidily scrawled and the way 'Made in Italy' is written, make me very suspicious.

The paper label is not relevant: it's purely for identification purposes.

I've been in touch with Wayne of Amy's Attique who cannot find any trace of such a vase in his books, and I'm sure I saw this offered by him earlier - any comment Frank?

With thanks,
David

It is definitely NOT an authentic Seguso signature. I've seen dozens of real ones, mainly from their post 1970s work, and this piece isn't even close.

Hi all,

RAY: Unfortunately I believe it was bought from a boot sale, so there's absolutely no chance of tracing it back - probably one of his customers who realised it was fake, and was offloading it... Wasn't aware of the (almost exclusive) use of labels either.

LAURA: Many thanks for confirmation. I was so certain it was a 'chrism' fake but felt it needed the experts touch.

I'l have to break the sad news to her!

Regards,
David

I have to agree, and the "MADE IN ITALY" certainly looks like chrism's handiwork. As came up in the correspondence with Fulvio Bianconi's heirs, it would most likely have been diamond-signed if it were authentic anyway.

Dencill - I have some photographic examples of "real" signed pieces - email me & I'll copy them to you if you like?`

On the Bianconi issue, I received another email attemtping to clarify the position on "originals". Here it is:

"Dear Sir,
We like to explaine about what exactly we intend for ORIGINAL PIECE.

Our efforts are basically to protect the intellectual work of items released
directly from Fulvio Bianconi under his presence.
We intend original Fulvio Bianconi works as items produced from his design
first time (it is impossible from his first proof for another person to
reproduce it in glass without reinterpretate the item) and only if interpretated
directly from him (I beleive is only one or two designer in the XX century
that went to factory to give the interpretation directly) and called from
experts except that original piece, zero copy, masterpiece, first item,
etc.
If factory like the item, FB give the authorization to reproduce it ( from
the item was more easy).
For this exist a larger description in italian literature but mayby only
in italian language.

It is the same like a musician who composes the music and in the next step
he directs the orchestra (musicians) in order to record the music.
This music is composed and directed from the same person and for this reason
it is original.
Maybe for some people it is preferable this original, for artistically reason,
maybe not, they prefer the item of one series (made from a FB design) and
not with the interpretation of Fulvio Bianconi. (You know that in any product
the last item or series generally whose perfect).

But this masterpiece, zero copy, unique example, etc. interpretated from
Fulvio Bianconi is only one item for each design. It is a sculpture in glass.

They have personal considerations.

Fulvio Bianconi during his life designed and create thousands of originals
vases, a larger number of them buyed directly from him from collectors and
never reproduced. (we have only photos and designs).

And the very large production whose between 1959 to 1983 and mayby most
interesting artistically (but this it is a point of view of some experts).

We hope we are hopeful for your work.

With Kindest Regards
