Textured tangerine tumbler?help please to identify
« on: July 13, 2010, 12:39:00 PM »
Hi, could you please identify this tumbler. It is 5 inches in height and 2 and a half inches in width and weighs 12 ounces. It is of solid colour and thicker at the base, and does have a ground out pontil but is has a strange straw mark going through it (please see pic). Many thanks for any help.

thankyou for your reply i think it is a drinking tumbler of some sort as the rim is thinner than on a vase but i am grateful for any response and any suggestions on this  ,any ideas on the mark to the base ?

One of the Forum members on whitefriars.com had a set of these (came in mixed colours) which had  label on "Made in Italy".  I am assuming yours is one of these.  The rim does look much thinner than on a bark vase, and the "crimped" section at the top is definitely not indicative of a Whitefriars bark vase.  As for a definitive maker, I just do not know.  As a matter of interest, what is the diameter  at the top?

I would say that diameter is more for a tumbler.  The 6" Whitefriars Bark vase has a diameter of 2.75..........only a little narrower, but surprising how it makes a difference to the proportions!

Well I know the IS It upload to which you refer.  As you can see, despite the comments, the voting is rather mixed to say the least.  Having seen a full set of these with the Italian labels, I will stick with my original opinion.
