style and date request for drinking glass
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:10:51 PM »
apologies in advance as I don't get on too well with doing pics. of clear glass.   Is this called a 'thistle' shape - as in thistle flower head?   145mm/5.75 inches tall, with star cut base.   I've trawled through a couple of my books re drinking glass shapes, and would appear this outline must be uncommon, might it be a toasting glass?  -  there actually is a cavity within the bulbous bottom of the bowl, so would hold perhaps a little more than most glasses of this general size.   The cutting is good, but nothing too much out of this world, and the glass is not over thin.   Perhaps just a decorative piece.   However, there is a grey matt wear ring under the base, so I guess maybe some age.   Grateful for anyone's ideas, and thanks for looking. :)
