Sorry Sue, my fault, I didn't mean to be so gruff. Its just over here some of the old 19th to early 20th century decorative use plate isn't marked...its just old plate.  Ken

You didn't actually say it was plate, you just said silver and sometimes things do have sterling fittings. My EPNS comment wasn't aimed particularly at you, just trying to insidiously spread facts.   ;D  :kissy:

As to the insidious spread of info, I can add that "Sheffield Plate" is another matter entirely - it's made by rolling silver metal onto copper metal mechanically before working it into the final form. It has a very high silver content and can be more valuable than pure silver.
