Signature on Art Glass Face Vase
« on: September 02, 2010, 01:55:43 AM »
I have a feeling I've seen this signature recently, but I can't remember where. This red vase is 6 3/4" tall. It has blue and white spatter on both sides topped with an applied squiggle face. It has a good, but illegible signature on bottom and the date 2007. Does anyone recognize the signature? Thanks!

I found a site called Ziemke - http://www.zglassblowing.com/index.htm - based in Vermont.  I think your name starts with a Z and ends with 'ki' or perhaps 'ke'.  The second line is 2007 I am fairly sure.  Not sure if it helps.

Ross, that looks like a definite possibility. The second line is definitely 2007, so the time is right. Ziemke's style looks right, too. I thought the vase looked North American because of the base. And I can pull Ziemke out of the signature. I'll see if I can find some examples of his sig online. It's always exciting to learn about a new talented artist. Thank you!

Fascinating piece - I assume you've noticed it also has gold foil on it.
Hope you do find the maker.

I found a few things by Glenn Ziemke, but the signatures were different. An early vase (1981) had the entire name that was rather scrawled. The recent glass has what looks like a scrawled Zim that is very different than this vase. The bases of the pieces I saw are different than this one. Still, it's a possibility.

It took a little persistence to find the maker, but I think I have it. I had to look at the style and find a signature that looked like this one. John Burchetta. The B looks like a FI or ZI. The end of the name is compressed. The letter formations are the same as many of his other pieces, though, so I am pretty sure of this one. There is an expanded example of his signature on eBay Item 140395428647 that was made in 1992.

Well spotted Anita, that does look good for the signature on your vase. :hiclp:

Have you sent them an email?

John

Thanks, Anne and John. I sent some pictures and hope to get a yes, it's ours answer. I like a lot of the glass he makes. I had seen the chicken pitchers. I enjoyed looking through his 2009 catalog. He does some good work. The "spiral" glass series reminds me a bit of my vase in the way the spirals are made. I will be surprised and disappointed if my vase is not by him. I'll let you know what is said if they answer the email.
