Mdina Question

glassobsessed:
Michael Harris' script is very distinctive, he was a skilled engraver and signed his name with lovely flowing letters, here is an example: http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-11859

I have never seen his signature with a date, rather "Michael Harris Mdina Glass Malta" (while at Mdina). The signature you saw is likely to have meant to represent either Joseph Said or Eric Dobson.

Are you talking about THAT exact vase, or one like it?
That one looks to be big and rather competent - they're ALL different, and the price should reflect the individual piece. I disagree strongly with John regarding that price being high, though - if it's as big as that one looks, and as wide, and as well shaped, and artist signed and dated, I reckon it's a bargain.
Prices do vary, before the recession, artist signed Fish vases were regularly reaching £200-ish, things have dropped off a bit with the crunch.

Sue it is the virtual twin to that vase at 8 1/2 X 9 1/2 & color, however now that I've read everything I could find on Mdina & Harris it cannot be a Harris signature with a 1978 date & even though all the writing is in very well flowing script it is not Harris, its in all probability Dobson as John said due to it being a bit had to decifer while a Harris signature is very clearly Harris.  Another thing I read was a bit alarming as it appears some inventive individuals have taken to adding signatures & dates to unmarked Mdina fish vases & since I'm not knowledgable enough to tell if its legit or not I'm walking away since I have no clue what value it has even if its a real Dobson signature. It was enlightening though to learn about Mdina glass because I had no knowledge prior to this regarding Mdina so thanks to everyone. Ken

chopin-liszt:
Some folk do have trouble reading Harris - I've seen it as Norris, John's seen it as something else - Davies? (can't remember what, sorry.)
Shame you couldn't have shown us a pic. of it.

(and yes, a great shame that some of the dishonest and greedy prats on the planet are getting to work with dremmels.)
