where does this gem of a 'jug' reside............Corning,... V & A....Vatican.....St. Petersburg......The Getty...............wherever it is, I just know they don't appreciate it as much as you would ,
I remember when it first came up for auction, Hee hee it was all a bit funny really , with the auctioneer stopping the auction to ask if the bids were serious , around £100,000 I think ,reassured he carried on to the final £220.000 or so , then all H--- broke loose,for the auctioneers not to have done at least a little research before the sale seems mind boggling(what do they get commission for ?), it being described as late 19thc with metal and paste mounts !"!!!!!!, anyway as you can see from the article ,when all the dust had settled and many folks pacified, it was resold .
