Squat Cloudy Class Vase - ID Help Needed
« on: November 02, 2010, 01:39:17 PM »
The final cloudy piece I've bought recently is this squat rounded glass vase/ jardiniere. It has streaks of yellow and brown overlaid over white enamel. It measures just under 5 inches (12.7 cm) tall by 6 1/2 inches (16.5 cm) in diameter at its widest. The base is slightly indented. It looks like the pontil was snapped off then the mark heat finished to smooth it over. Agsin I've no real idea of maker so any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks :)

Steven

It looks very, very Alum Bay to me.

is the base very slight curved inwards all round towards the pontil mark?  sort of dougnutty?  I agree with Sue it looks Alum Bay ish, and I ask, because I did have a lovely purples and greens vase that was Alum Bay with a similar type of pontil mark where a round blob of glass had been placed over the scar.

Thanks Sue, I think you're right. I've just had a quick look and found a labelled vase in a very similar colour combination on ebay; item 360313845749

Just to be sure I've e-mailed Alum Bay so I'll see if they get back to me...

Yes, the base curves in towards the pontil mark, then there's the blob of melted glass. It's interesting as the other Alum Bay vases I've owned had always had rough, snapped-off pontil marks.

100% Alum Bay - I had a near-identical one a few years back with a factory label.
