Is this really Per Lutken????
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:09:17 PM »
I have just seen this and wondered if it really is Holmegaard Per Lutken?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HOLMEGAARD-GLASS-novelty-bird-figuring-PER-LUTKEN-/230547838307?pt=UK_Art_Glass&hash=item35adb8d563

Any confirmation would be gratefully received as I have seen quite a lot of what I thought were Chinese glass Millefiori glass birds and animals described as Danish, and I am beginning to wonder if I am wrong.  I am sometimes!!

I suppose if this and a bit of Holmegaard were smashed to smithereens, it might be a little harder to tell them apart.......

I think that the sudden influx of rubbish animal figures with Holmegaard attributions on eBay this year might be my fault - I included a Holmegaard frigger in my contribution to the current Miller's collectables price guide.

I also included this caveat, most of which was edited out in the final text: "These small uncatalogued birds were made in plentiful numbers throughout the early- and mid-1970s, and were made available as novelties through the factory gift-shop. Many other factories have made similar objects commercially, so a keen awareness of Holmegaard's palette from this period is paramount in telling them apart."

Since then I've seen so many eBayers peddling animal-shaped tosh and claiming Miller's as their attribution source - which always has the knock-on effect of other sellers dropping the attribution altogether and claiming it as outright fact.

The bird in question:
