Czech vase?
« on: November 10, 2010, 07:48:35 PM »
Hi, does any one know who made this vase please. It is 9" (22.5cm) tall, of great quality, flashed and cut. The vase slowly tapers towards the top so it is slightly wider at the top than the bottom. The base has a polished pontil and is flattened, possibly Czech or something else? cheers

If it's Czech, other people might be able to confirm.

It wouldn't surprise me, though, if it was German, 1960s-1970s in stead of Czech. However, this is purely based on style characteristics (both the way the squares are arranged and the green overlay are used in German glass) - it's not like I've seen this vase before.

Yes, I also have several German vases (or vases that I assume to be German) with patterns of repeating squares. One even that might be in that Oberglas range, but mine has a different number of smaller squares, not the same height-width combo, and the finish on the squares looks a little different. It could be that this type of pattern might have been popular with several different factories at the time.

Clear-and-satinated (Peill did many of those for instance) and clear-and-coloured-overlay are two techniques found in German glass of many factories of that period.
