Glass Cut Perfume/Scent bottle with Silver Rim
« on: November 17, 2010, 12:00:19 AM »
Have no idea of the designer but able to extract some info. on the hallmark, which is not clear on my pictures.  H & S  - O - Lion - Leopard.   Not too sure of the exact date of this perfume bottle but believe it to be made in the 1900,s and is cut glass crystal - London Assay Office. any further info. or corrections would be of great help.  Overall height - 7 inches and the base is completely flat/polished :rah:

To get a date on the silver mark we need to know what type of script is used, italic, capital, gothic etc... and the shape of the 'shield' around the date letter, that is if it's not worn away ;D

The letter is capitaland not italic and the shape around the letter looks like an arched door.  Could be wrong as there is clear indication and signs of wear around the markings.

Within the Judith Miller Price Guide 2005, page 343 there is a similar scent bottle of the same sort of shape.  Thanx for you assistance.    :rah:

I don't think it's 1889 as the surround to the date letter is a distinct shield with a point at the base therefore probably 1909 as the 20's mark is in italic and later date letters also do not match your description,so I'd go with London,1909,this only applies to the silver maker the bottle could come from anywhere,I believe some Bohemian glass has English hallmarked silver rims, just to confuse us collectors ::) ;D

Your most probably right about the date.  I'm no specialist within the field of glass or silver and your info. has certainly helped.  Thanx for your time and effort!   :rah:
