Topic: Carnival glass cake stand registered to M.&.J.Guggenheim ID "Fine Cut Rings"

Does anyone recognise the pattern/maker of this Carnival Glass pedestal cake stand please?  Its marked with a reg.no. 704493 and the design was registered by M.&.J. Guggenheim, a London importer, on 25th March 1924.  From what I can glean from the web, Guggenheim imported glass mostly made by Libochovice, but I cannot find any confirmation that this might be Libochovice.  The pattern reminds me of ping-pong bats and balls

Anne, the maker of this cake stand has been a mystery for a long time. There is a celery vase in the same pattern (as well as a variant) too, that are also marked with the same RD. The pattern is known as FINE CUT RINGS. We have 1928 Pottery Gazette ads that show the celery vase (as well as the variant). Various makers names have been thrown into the arena: Leerdam and Rindskopf to mention just two. But so far, despite a lot of searching, the maker hasn't yet been found. Hopefully someone else will be able to attribute it.

Hi, I wonder if you can help me.  I have a celery vase in the Fine Cut Rings design (704493).  It was a wedding gift to my Grandparents in 1925.  I was interested to read that there is a bit of mystery over its origin!  Anyway, I am going to sell it and I wondered whether you would mind if I used some of your information when I describe it (on ebay)?

My vase is clear glass by the way, whereas I notice that most carnival glass appears to be coloured.  Not sure whether that will devalue it at all.  Thanks for your help.

Your is not carnival glass, though it may be in the same pattern. Lines were often produced in different colour glass and finishes. Carnival glass is sprayed with metal salts while the glass is hot to add colour and give the typical iridescent finish.
