Help ID 2 vases, probably German/Austrian/Czech
« on: November 26, 2010, 04:36:23 PM »
Hi,
can you help me ID these two vases?
I am living in Vienna, so German/Austrian/Czech are quite probable :-)

1. smoke brown, optically blown glass, 17cm high, unmarked

2. zylindrical, rather thick glass, darkblue/clear/opaque white, 24.5cm high, unmarked

Thank you very much,
best regards from Vienna
Michael

:hi: Tach Michael und herzlich willkommen auf diesem Board.

The brown vase looks very seventies - I would guess Germany as an origin, perhaps Zwiesel, perhaps WMF, perhaps Wiesenthalhütte or Gralglashütte. A good start for research is http://www.glaskilian.de/ .

The three coloured one looks to me very Chinese. The blue is too blue, the white is too watery and the shape is too simple. But we can only confirm after looking at the bottom - the finish of the pontil mark will tell for sure.

Hi Ivo, danke fuer das nette Willkommen.
And thanks for your suggestions!
I have already looked through the glaskilian pages, couldn't find a real match for the brown vase. But Zwiesel or Gralglas sounds quite right...

I will post pics of the bottom of the blue-white vase. I would have never thought of "made in China" :D (which doesn't mean anything -- I am far from an expert).
Anyway, I like it...

As expected. Pontil mark ground out but unpolished points at Chinese origin.

Thank you very much, Ivo, that's interesting!
I guess it is then impossible to tell date of production? Contemporary? Eighties?
(I still like it though :) )
