Topic: Irridescent Glass

Good Afternoon, GMB. I have been reading this great forum for quite a while now (trying to educate myself) and was hoping someone could give me an opinion as to the maker and colour of a vase purchased last week from ebay. I wasn't sure what it was - just liked it - and thought it may have been Kralik mother of pearl. But when it arrived the colour didn't seem quite right for that - the ?drops, tropfen, tadpoles, prunts? are a rich copper colour, as is the rim. I would greatly appreciate your expertise. Good question, Lesley. When I first saw the vase, I thought it was probably a Loetz vase with Vesuvian decor. I have a lot of trouble distinguishing between Kralik and Loetz in some of their c 1900 glass. Many people have no problem. I am jealous of them.  :mrgreen: I cannot tell a lot about your finish. I originally thought glatt, but I noticed your vase has a frosty white look to the iridescence. It is a very nice vase. It looks good quality.

Pontil looks wrong for Loetz
99% certain from the shape its Kralik -but an unusual pattern one -their diversity was amazing

Anita, thank you for your reply. It will be my lousy photography skills - the glass is very smooth! I have never had "hands on" a piece like this before, so am unsure of quality, but I _think_ it feels about right for it's size - about 5 3/4" tall x 6 1/2" at it's widest.

Thank you also Mike - lurve that diversity! We just don't see too many pieces of European glass down here (Oz) that are accessible for training eye and hand. I am very grateful to have your confirmation of my guess. I shall try and source the Antique Explorer - your article sounds like a must read.
