Orrefors vase ?
« on: December 31, 2010, 04:39:57 PM »
I was prompted by Chris' posting on Lutken vase (http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,37814.0.html)  to post this one, but am posting it separately to avoid hijacking his thread

The attached pictures show a vase approx 7cm high, and 8.5 cm diam. glass is 2 cm thick (weight 750 grammes).

As you can see from the pics, there are incised lines half way up the outside.

The lines have been made in two "bands", each of approx 2.5 cm high, and overlapping.

Now the easy bit - it's signed Orrefors DH (or DU / PH / PU / PA) 3616

Swedish glass factories doesn't show this piece, but there is a piece marked FA 2179 (10 cm dia) with v similar patterning (named Kantarell)

It's also similar to the piece Chris refers to on http://www.hardernet.dk/   "the 70th entry in the Lütken, Per kunstglas solo section" (search on 628), which in turn is quoting the item 250 in the unica section of Per Lutken's book "Glass is life".

The obvious answer is that it's Orrefors (the signature looks genuine when compared to other bits I've had), but before I jump to that conclusion I'd be grateful for others' thoughts.

Gareth

From the pieces I own I think it is indeed Orrefors.

I suspect it is DA since A refers to cut glass, D = Ingeborg Lundin.  The 3616 is the pattern number and according to Ivo's book that dates it to about 1956.

I love the diffraction grating effect that creates the rainbow with light.
