Saw this small vase this morning and snapped these photos as I had never heard of Shetland Glass before. Britains most northerly glassworks I presume.....
The vase was quite nicely made, thinly blown, with trailed glass and chips marvered in to form the decoration, about 4 inches tall, ground and polished base.
While chatting to Ron Wheeler about the vase (he had seen it earlier) he told me that Shetland Glass was started by Chris Rouse with the help of a government grant some time in the early to mid 1980s. Rouse had previously been a glass blower at Isle of Wight Studio Glass. It seems that Shetland Glass did not last for long. Anyone have any more info?
