Amethyst Scandi? TK maxx? Beak Vase?
« on: February 09, 2011, 10:22:45 PM »
This was a late night successful bid on Ebay that now I'm puzzling over.  It is an amethyst vase that I thought might be by Nanny Still......sadly, I now think that's wishful thinking on my part,  I realise that I didn't pay nearly enough attention to the Riihimaki photos I have.  Its shape is quite different, more rounded, thicker neck, and although I haven't ever seen one in the flesh, I'm thinking this feels "softer".  And its base is unmarked.
I do like it a lot, so that's the main thing, but, of course, now I'm wondering if I've paid over the odds for a TK Maxx vase (wouldn't be the first time). Any confirmation/refutation gratefully received.
It stands 30 cm tall, the base is 7.5 cm and the neck 3.75 cm.

you're excused for thinking this is a Nanny Still vase - it is a close copy. The absence of a sig might have you wondering, though.

Aha!!! Yours isnt an original.  I know this one as I have  a Nanny Still .  And that has a signature. Would you like me to put up a snap of mine to compare? Were they selling it as nanny Still?

It had me wondering too, I almost bid but my collecting obsession lies elsewhere at the moment. I have not seen these in TK Maxx.

They were selling it as generic "eames scandinavian modernist", so no mis-selling, and yes, I'd love to see your Nanny Still.

According to this ebay listing, it was sold by Habitat:

Well spotted.  I'll keep  a watch on it to see what price it reaches.  Maybe even bid for it so my amethyst one could have some company.  Thanks.

Ah, that explains it, Habitat is way to posh for me. :D

They had it in the Riihimaki category, and have another in the same category now following the sucsess of your purchase...these are really very common around here.

To my mind, and I believe ebay/paypals, the category constitutes part of the description.

(it's not eames or scandinavian either!)
