ID for - Green Bubble Decanter w/ Stopper
« on: February 20, 2011, 01:27:02 AM »
Hello!
I just started collecting a few pieces of vintage glass.
I am having a hard time trying to figure out the origin of the last piece I bought and I am really curious about it.

So it is a decanter of sorts that is 7 and a half inches tall. Dark green, hand-blown, has "bubbles", with a pretty large stopper that is hollow. The seller had the date 1941 on it's tag when I bought it.

Decanter in question: http://i52.tinypic.com/dwym2r.jpg

Stopper:http://i55.tinypic.com/osxtsz.jpg (it's not cracked, it's a reflection ;) )

So I did some more research tonight again and finally found some decanters that look exactly like my piece.
It looks exactly like a Blenko decanter #715? (from Husted's Bubble Wrap series??)

I keep looking at other pics and the stopper on mine is not as round as the Blenko's I am finding. It's just a little tidbit difference I am questioning. It's particular. And also the bottle portion of it is not as even, if you look at the neck you can see one side is bent in more. Maybe it's just defected...maybe there's more to it?

Here are some others that are labeled as Blenko #715:

That slight difference in stopper shape might just be a natural variation because they're hand blown? The patterned section does look to be a very good match, but I'd wait for a Blenko expert before committing.

Edited to add: It also depends on how far you trust the eBay identification - often sellers are wrong or optimistic.

However, here's another #715 Vineyard decanter in someone's Blenko collection. The top is more like yours.
