Topic: Mdina Vase, But does it have a Name??

  Hi All,
           I bought this Mdina Vase last week, not my usual thing but I thought I might be able to sell it on and make a profit 
   
           My Question is, how do I describe it!! are these vases known by a certain name by Mdina collectors, at the moment I call it 'the square bodied,strech necked bottle vase with random strapping by Mdina' !!!

        itis signed to the bottom  'Mdina Glass 1975'

        Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a "Two-tone, blue and amethyst, strapped, attenuated bottle", John.  :thup:
  It's fabulous.  

These are quite scarce and very highly desirable pieces. They mostly seem to be dated '74 and '75, (I don't think I've seen one which is later - but I'm open to any new info). This is the period when Eric Dobson was in charge, before Joseph Said took over, and Eric Dobson a fair amount of design input, despite that not being his official role (he designed the Tiger pattern).
You'll have to check it over very carefully for damage to the strapping, but even if there is a little, it shouldn't matter too much for sale purposes, given their scarcity - and fabulosity.

They often have a maker's signature on the base as well as the date. Either Dobson's or Said's mark.

It there any silvery iridesence on the outside?

   Thanks so much for the info Sue  :kissy:  Having examined it all the strapping appears to be in excellent order, overall its in great condition. It does appear to have a 'silvery' sheen in places. Hopefully I should make a decent prifit, I have two small collectors fayres locally next month, so fingers crossed!!!

You are most welcome, John. 
This two-tone range also contains some smaller, simpler pieces, "helter-skelter" or "top-hat" style bottles and bowls - but on these, the strapping is really simple - a single thick, wavy band winding around the piece - often with a lot fewer silver chloride effects. I suspect these were made after Said took over. Some are very boring, some are lovely.
These huge attenuated bottles with the very complex strapping are quite a different kettle of fish. :smg:
