3- legged bowl shaped but what goes on top?

This beautiful 3 legged cauldron shaped orb has a metal collar with threads which indicate something screwed in here. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas. It looks a lovely old piece of glass - a gorgeous colour of green.

Probably a lamp holder with wires coming off the side .

I think it might be an oil lamp; I saw something very similar yesterday with its burner and a tiny chimney.
