That's more clear on the bottom than I'm used to seeing on Murano geode pieces. Most I've seen have either two colours or use bullicante. What's the base like? Wear?  A photo from above and below would help.

Hi

A couple of images that may help! The base is in good condition, the pontil has been removed very neatly so there is a very shallow recess. Which forms a rim which the bowl will sit upon.

It's a nice piece. I still get a more Scandinavian than Murano feel from it. I'm far from certain, and so I make the suggestion more to get a reaction from others than to suggest a positive attribution. It's one of those pieces I like to hear other people describe so that I can learn somehting.

Hello David

It was sold to me as Murano by a very experienced dealer from Alfies Market in London who sells just glass! So i would like to know if it is??? Its such a great looking bowl in superb condition & very heavy!!

There's very little wear to the base.

I have extensive knowledge in other areas of antiques.....but i'm completely new to 20th century glass! So i'm learning something new everyday!! So if anyone has any ideas or info i would greatly appreciate it!

Andrew

Does not "feel" Italian to me either........ I agree with David, the distribution of clear around the blue does not strike me as Italian work......  and although it is not completely unheard of, dished pontil scars are, in my experience, relatively uncommon on Italian glass in this type of form..... generally you find the bases ground flat and polished....

With due respect, I suspect you may be the only one who does.
It is more likely to find an attribution in the main glass forum - then if  it is Murano, it can be put back.

The main point of identification is to correctly attribute a country/manufacturer to your piece. It appears that two experienced members have already expressed doubt as to it being "Murano". Too often, this tag is lazily dangled in front of art glass purely to achieve a sale, whereas GMB members here do not necessarily have any profit motive.

Personally, I think I'd be happier with a Scandinavian attribution... however, I think if a mod were to change the title of this thread to something more inclusive, such as "Geode, unknown maker, but who???", it might achieve more success.

As Sue points out, if it is IDed as Murano, then it can be moved back to that forum.
