I'd never heard of an upside down shot glass until earlier today when I saw this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Citrine-Vaseline-Bottoms-up-Shot-Glass-/220754347843?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3365fc0743 and now this one as well.

Personally, I think a dram of scotch should be sipped and savored!

Mr Vaseline Glass

This is true. But tiquila, on the other hand, does not need to be sipped, but tastes best with cinnamon sugar and orange slices..

Hi Ray  :hi:  My O/H says he doesn't think it is saying 3pence in old money because that was written as 3d, a small d, not a capital D. So back to the drawing board....we are on the case!!  Ever since he took me to the Cambridge Fair, he has started to show more of an interest, and as he is an Engineer, he does seem to think laterally!!
Onwards and upwards as they say! :wsh:

True, but the "D" is superscript, which is an equivalent of a lower case "d" in normal font.

dont think it would be the price on the glass, as meaning every time the price went up they would have to re-etch or buy more glasses to put the price on,... shot glass in a good one will look into it when i get back from work later .. cheers all

Hi ,
The glasses I have seen before with polished bases to stand have definitely been etched with the cost of the contents , same as today people wanted to know that they were getting what they paid for , 1 pence worth 2 pence worth etc , the glasses would have been supplied by the drinks wholeseller and if there was a price review then replacements would have been sold to the outlets to comply with the latest measures and costs, just like the pint pots we used to have with a line for the measure being replaced for those without ,to be filled to the top, all good marketing methinks.

Cheers ,
                  Peter.
