   Hi All,

I'm posting this for a friend of mine, haven't actually seen it in the flesh myself so can't speak for its quality! he says it is an Amethyst/Aubergine colour with a heavy texture, the inside he describes as being blood red! underneath I'm told there is a ground and polished pontil scar and is signed V Harris(?) he believes. I have asked him to take pictures of the base using the talc method to bring out the signature but he's not back home til Wednesday so these will follow.  Would be most grateful for any Ideas, suggestions and comments!

                                   Warmest Wishes,

                                         John

My friend has just sent me 2 more pics of his vase, one of the base, as you can see has a signature of 'V Harris'. I think this vase is either by Ingridglas or Oberglas of Austria, I also believe the signature was put on the vase a few years ago, I don't know if any of you recall about 5 years ago there was a seller on E-Bay by the moniker of ChrisM who bought low-end items from charity shops and T K Maxx and using an electric engraver 'signed' well known names on then to draw unsuspecting newbies into believing they were originals. any Ideas/thoughts/comments most gratefully welcomed.

                                Warmest Wishes,

                                    John

I think the signature "reads" V. Hanuš (Václav Hanuš - Czech designer of cut and pressed glass).
Czech glass from this period is almost never signed, even less likely will there be a signature on a piece like this vase (which doesn't look Czech at all, btw).
So your guess that some person put the signature on a no-name vase is quite probable...

I can't help you further though; German origin is surely possible (Ingrid Glas), Oberglas I don't think.

Michael
