Mdina Side Stripe Query

(1/2) > >>

Mosquito:
I just bought this vase this morning. Am I right in describing this as a Side Stripe vase or should it be a lollipop? It has the usual applied trails up each side, however, all the other examples I can find illustrated have a shorter, flared out rim. This vase, however, has a tall slender neck with a very narrow opening like those seen on Lollipop vases....

It stands about 8 1/4 inches tall.

Thanks,
Steven :)

Lustrousstone:
Did you get it from GB? I nearly bought it on Sunday, till I realised it had a big chip. I think it's a bit of an oddball

Mosquito:
Well spotted! Yes it came from GB & has a chip on the edge of the foot. I originally put it back too, but when I was walking back to the checkout I couldn't resist going back for it. I think it's its odball nature that appeals to me... ;)

It's a Side-Stripe Lollipop in "Tiger" - rather a nice rendition of Tiger too  - the colours are lovely and deep - I think later Tiger is much flatter in tone and the yellow frothy background much more of a creamy white shade. I don't like the later ones nearly so much. This design (Tiger) is by Eric Dobson, it is still made, though now it's called Marble.

Mosquito:
Thanks Sue, the colours really are lovely, another reason why I couldn't resist it despite the damage.  Having looked on the Mdina site I see what you mean about the later ones, they're nowhere near as nice as this.

Thanks again,
Steven ;)
