Hi All!
As an update to my post earlier this month about a vase by A. Maresova.
I was wondering about the name on the catalogue which was hard to read. It only involves three vases: 5513, 5514 and 5515.
I trecently bought a vase 5515 here in Sydney. I posted four pictures of it.
I emailed Jindrich about the identity of this designer: "I have found the drawing, but I find it difficult to read the designer".
He replied to me:
Hi Kevin, seems to me that it was this lady:
Marešová Smolková Alice
* 7.3.1922 Hradec Králové (Hradec Králové) (Česká republika (Czech Republic)) sklo
All best to Australia
Jindrich
I then went about looking for more information on Alice Maresova-Smolkova.
I've not found much at all.
About the only reference I have is from:http://www.glass.cz/list%5Cframe.asp?co=hist.htm&pid=13&lang=cz
The gist of this relates to the period after 1945 with the return of Profesor Karel Stipl as head of the "Umeleckoprumyslové skole v Praze".
She was one of the former students of Jaroslav V. Holecek who joined with Stipl's students Matura, Hlava, Klinger etc there in Prague.
The links between the "Umeleckoprumyslové skole v Praze" and "Umelecka remesla Skrdlovice" are a little unclear to me.
I've recently been looking at the sticker:
http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php?topic=45009.0It lead me on to researching the UR idea.
Is the vase with the blue UR sticker a unique piece done by one of the Prague students at Skrdlovice?
I'm just tossing up a few ideas. As I said it is unclear to me. Is there somewhere I can read more?
