Picked this one up a month or so ago from a dealer who didn't know what it was either. At first I thought it could be Czech, but somehow it looks out of place between my other Czech pieces and I couldn't find any known Skrdlovice to match it. Maybe Scandinavian? It has signs of age, mainly a lot of wear on edges of the flat polished base.

16 cm high, 6 cm across at the bottom, 10 cm wide at the top.

Any ideas or observations that could help me search further?

Astrid

Solved, solved! While researching something else, I actually found this one.

It's Val St Lambert, Belgium, and these designs were made by Antonio Guido Bon in the 1960s. Apparently there are signed versions around as well, so I'm 99% sure.

Astrid, congratulations on finding an ID.  :)

I thought Val Saint Lambert pieces were always signed... A little question -- are the bases of these pieces always flat?

That vase is from the same series, yes. Guido Bon = Antonio Guido Bon. But the price setting at four figures is a bit strange (unless this one happens to be the super rare one of the range?). I've now seen several of this series on ebay.be and some Belgian auction houses, they seem to make between 20 to 70 euro at most there.

Yes, they usually are, one of the reasons I didn't even consider VSL.

As for the base, the base of my piece is flat, and I've seen others polished flat around, but not enough different ones to be sure about the answer.

Thank you, Astrid...

When I looked at one of the Val Saint Lambert catalogues on Pamela's lovely site (the same one your vase is in), I found a vase which was similar (but not the same) to my smoky waisted vase.  This made me wonder if my piece could also be Belgian.

Again, I'm very glad you found an ID. :)
