request for information re ice crackle vase.
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:47:37 AM »
Posting here as there appear some real differences between this and the recent S&W/RB pieces.     Those already posted show an uneven textured outer surface, whilst this one has a very smooth feel, with broad cut side panels and smooth ground/polished base.   Colour is almost a pale cranberry overlaid thickly with clear glass, and in the first picture (on the ground top rim) the join between the clear and innner coloured crackle layer can be seen clearly (almost the reverse construction of the celery vases, perhaps?).     A few small seeds and many small bubbles, and with a fair amount of wear on the base.      No dull wear in the neck, so don't think a stopper ever present - and height is something like 4.75"/120mm.    Could be a vase, but really not sure of its original intended purpose, and in the last picture there is comparison with a probable S&W/RB piece (blue scent/cologne), showing the noticeable difference in appearance of 'crackle'.       So, conclusion..... quite possibly not the same output as the celery's/vases (date wise this piece could be 1920 - 30 period)  -  but I'm really not sure, so welcome all and any thoughts, and thanks for looking. :)

Ordinary plain crackle is just a part-blown gob of glass plunged into cold water to crack it and then reheated and blown to shape. Your pink bottle has been cased after cracking and cut when cold. Not all crackle glass is S&W. It's still being made today.
