Unidentifiable Whitefriars?

I bought this vase yesterday.  It screams Whitefriars to me, the colour is exactly the same shade as a piece I own already, the wear to base, the thickness of the glass the circular polished pontil and quality - all there.  But........

...this design is unknown, so I'm in a quandry!  :shock:

It's just under 6.5" high, plain cased cylinder vase, with a  thick turned in lip to the top.  I've just noticed it has only ONE optic rib halfway down.  The glass appears slightly darker towards the top, after this rib maybe light refraction..

I think it's a WF vase gone wrong, and someone's turned the lip over for fun.

Does anyone else have any ideas?  Am I losing the ability to identify?  :shock:  :lol:

My first thought is Zwiesel or WMF.

Whitefriars was the manufacturer who produced locally (for local people!) to the taste of the time but there are others who made simple cylinder vases in the popular sea green/ teal as well.

WF quality and finish are not sufficiently specific to arrive at a positive attribution, I think - you need a matching production number and at WF all  is well documented.

Clear cased cylinder vases present no technical difficulty. They were considered so utilitarian by WMF in the 60s and 70s that no record was kept of production items or models. I don't think Riihimäki, Maastricht or Sea GLasbruk cared much for record keeping either.

Hmm...well perhaps.  I think Jackie from WF.org has a Zwiesel collection, maybe I'll stick the photo over there.  :?

That's very true.  I'm thinking there might be room for a few oddities though.  I don't usually go around thinking everything is Whitefriars...this just feels right to me somehow.   As you say though - might be Zweisel or WMF.

It seems that this vase is probably 9583.  Emmi and Graham on wf.com helped me out.  It's just that this vase has a much larger lip than usual.

Thank goodness, I was beginning to think I was losing it!   :lol:
