Uranium Glass Identification? Whitefriars??
« on: May 23, 2011, 06:36:44 PM »
Hello All
Having a spot of bother identifying my Uranium Glass collection! I have no source books on them and frankly no idea where to start! I feel that this might be Whitefriars but I cannot find a solid record of Whitefriars Uranium pieces. Can anyone help with this?
Many thanks
Simon

Hi and welcome  :hi:
We have a fair few folk here intersted in Uranuim glass of all sorts - who may be able to help - but it would be much easier if we could see the piece without the dark lighting!
A profile shot, a shot of the rim and of the base, with the details being visible are what we need - but we also need to see what colour the glass is without the uv thing - uranium glass comes in many, many colours.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Cheers Keith! I've been reading the glass message board for years but never got round to putting some of my pieces on! Hoping now I have organised my time better I can take more of an active role! :t:
I've got about 800 pieces so it should keep me busy identifying them!
regards
simon

must admit that I had also pondered the question of whether W/Fs. had ever produced uranium glass - Jackson doesn't include it in her glossary of term - and I don't recall seeing reference to uranium on the Whitefriars.com site  -  but could, of course, have missed it.    Is anyone able to enlighten us?       I wasn't aware that real uranium glass came "in many, many colours".   Anyway, nice piece Sussex_Oast, and welcome to the GMB :)

Many Thanks Paul!
I am aware that Whitefriars did make a lot of Uranium glass but I have only seen selected images of it and even then very few are confirmed as being definately Whitefriars. I also have to say that from the few pieces of Uranium glass which I do have it is in a few different shades from pale yellow to vivid green possibly that might help to identify it?  :X:

 :hiclp: :hiclp:  Very Pretty.

I do not know the maker, but I have seen some Fenton glass (ruffed) and go from pale green.  I think it is called (??) Vaseline Opalescent.

Just throwing this out there, and stand to be corrected.... :spls2:

apologies Simon  -  obviously I'm short-sighted tonight  -  hadn't seen that you had included your name at the end of the post. :)
