Topic: Large Art-Glass Amethyst Colour Bottle Vase,Any Origin Ideas??

Large amethyst bottle with wide base was being used as a jostik holder ive just purchased for my collection not too bothered if its a named firm but would be nice if it was, Across the base its 9" and the same tall. Has a small polished pontil mark not too much wear just in some small areas of the base as quite uneven.Maybe modern TK MAXX or other any ideas please?? :sc:

After looking through ebay listings etc ive found a nearly identical example listed under holmegaard gulvase yet its in a green colour not lilac/amethyst as this, The seller seems to deal predominently in art-glass and describes it as more than likely holmegaard would like to know the liklehood of this if known...

It's not any sort of Gulvase - they have long necks and almost a right angle between the shoulder and the neck. They also come in a variety of different colours.

They have also been made by a few different companies - By Cascade in England under license for a start.
(I'm not up on all the info.)

And, just on Saturday, I had a chance to have a look at what's in TKMaxx - I found some rather beautiful amethyst "Gulvases". They had an attractive "designed" label stuck on their necks, reading;
"Broste Handmade Copenhagen"
and a slightly less attractive white sticker on the bottom reading;
"Made in China"

I actually made notes of the sorts of things currently being done:-

Superb Gulvasey things.

A textured clear "crizzled" finish. (as in dipped in cold water to crack the outer casing, then further blown to soften the crack lines)

What appeared to be green aventurine. I didn't have a magnifying glass to work out if the glittery bits were actually green themselves, or simply just in the dark green clear glass.
Copper aventurine (nothing new there)

I found things decrated internally with both plain glitter - and with Mica.

Quite attractive things with Studio Glass - like big streaky strappings and zig-zag strappings/

Polished rims with arrises (tiny bevels) - I found these on some quite stunning big bowls.
They had a "black" rim, about 1.5" deep and a "black" base about 2.5" deep.
Inbetween, there was a layer of batutto cut teal blue glass.
However, while the rim was finished beautifully, the base was a bit more crude, polished to make the base flat in small places, some marver "rings".

Ther was a fair amount of batutto cut stuff. And it looked good.

Hmmmm,

Bears some relationship to other Timo Sarpaneva pieces that I'm aware of.

It does bare some resemblance i see what your saying some of the vases are also in a similar colour and shapes somewhat the same, If i were to say my one objection might be the quality of my piece i maybe would expect a piece to be a better quality than mine if it were by the likes of sarpeneva although ive only ever held some festivo candlesticks b4 worth me taking a closer look into this though and other similar designs from that part of the world... :wsh:

I don't see much resemblance to any Sarpaneve Iittala pieces (neither shape, colour, nor bottom finish). A signature is missing as well...
But I think it is a very nice vase!
