Amber/Tortoiseshell(ish) Vase with Gold flecks for ID
« on: July 02, 2011, 05:44:30 PM »
I wonder if anyone recognises this vase, one of this week's auction purchases?  It is 8" tall and 5.25" diameter at the rim, less at the base, and is a riot of gold(?) flecks and dark brown squiggles with a neatly centred pontil mark.  The glass is quite thick and slightly "bumpy" on the inside.  There is some wear on the base, so I'm guessing it's not recent Chinese or such.  I had a vague hope for Mdina but it doesn't seem to fit with anything I can see online or in Mark Hill's book.  I also had thought that there was a thread on a similar vase not so long ago but I've searched and can't find anything.  As ever, all ideas welcomed.Thanks, Iain

Yes, that's exactly the thread I was thinking about.  Thank you so much.  There do seem to be similarities.  And from what I read on the other thread it could be Belgian, or French, or Czech/Bohemian, or Stourbridge.  Hmm. javascript:void(0);
Anyone like to hazard another view??

 ;D  I think you probably have enough countries to be searching in the meantime  :o.... but now there are two very similar vases hopefully someone will come up with a link or a lightbulb moment for you.

I think Bohemian/Czech is the most likely option,; the others are less likely.

I wonder if you could say more about your Czech/Bohemian theory? What leads you in that direction?  I'm not questioning it at all, it's just an area of glass (one of many) that I don't know much about.  Thanks.
