Pressed Sparrow-like Bird.
« on: July 05, 2011, 03:44:09 AM »
Hello Everyone,
I expect this little bird has flown in from Asia and is probably just cheap tat made for the tourist market but I found him endearing enough to spend a couple of dollars on him at the local trash and treasure market. I cant find any mold marks on him so I am assuming he has been nicely finished. He stands a mere 9.5cm at his highest point and balances well on those skinny little legs.

I've sat him on the kitchen windowsill where he can watch over the proceedings!

Cheers
Meegs

Meegs, he's lovely!  Do you really think he's 'cheap tat'?

Hi Anik,
I am assuming he is one of those mass produced items that you might find in a souvenir shop. His little wooden plinth is rather crude, however I liked his inquisitive stance and couldn't walk past him a second week in a row. So I rescued him and he has now taken up residence on the window sill. He is much less bite-y, smelly and demanding than the other resident bird in the house.
Cheers
Meegs

Chinese seems to be the most likely - the Jade colour seems to be very popular there...

I'm not a big fan of birds, but I think he is particularly gorgeous - his stance, the detail of the feet, something very careful and precise about him.
