scimiman:
What fantastic news.
Richard P. Golding founder of Okra Glass and more recently Station Glass together with Terri L. Colledge who has become known worldwide for reviving the ancient art of Cameo carving and glass enamelling have been commissioned
to recreate the Portland Vase and to have it finished for the International Glass Festival in August 2012. The project is being supported by Ian from Ruskin Mill and, all being well, will be recorded for posterity.
The vase (suspect they will have to have a few go`s to get it right - especially the handles) will be made by Richard and a team of glassmakers at Ruskin Mill, Stourbridge and then Terri will do her magic on it over many many months.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portland_Vase for more detail about this amazing piece of glass.
Several people have made "copies" over the years. Richard and Terri being asked to make it together is a reflection of how their skills are regarded by people in the glass world. I for one cant wait to see the outcome.
