Ruby-eyed pig with gold-coloured flecks... maker?
« on: July 11, 2011, 09:14:19 AM »
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the maker of my little pig.  It's not what I would normally collect, though I do like its 'solid' shape and curly tail. :)

It's 5,5cm high and 10cm long from snout to tail and weighs 230g.  The inside of the pig has tiny gold-coloured flecks (perhaps real gold?  See my 4th photograph for a closeup) and its feet are chamfered.  I suspect its from Murano.

All comments appreciated.  Thank you.

The more I look at this lovely piggy Anik, the more I think it is a very good Murano piece.
There is a lot of very good detail....the ears, tail and the stance, all lead me to think this is a quality piece....a keeper??
Might it be Seguso??
Is it worth asking for it to be moved into the Murano arena so that Anita might see it??  :)

Hi Rosie!

I've also got a little duck with very similar gold-coloured inclusions, perhaps just a bit finer, with a red label on it:  "Archimede Seguso Murano Made in Italy".  Do you think the piglet and the duck are related?

Kind moderator, perhaps Rosie is right in suggesting this be moved to the Murano board?

Thank you!

There is a touch of  Déjà vu about this little duck Anik....have I seen him somewhere before?
I think he may well be related to your piggy, and I like them both....quality items, with only a little hesitation about the ducks wings.

I am still searching for lookalikes....you know I am persistant!! :sun:

Rosie, maybe that's because the duck's wings are missing their ends?  (A small bit of the tail as well )

The pig, on the other hand, is in fine form.

Thank you, again...  :kissy:

Anik, I would say definitely Murano, but I'm not sure who. Two things make me think it isn't Archimede Seguso -- the feet are ground and polished and the eye is a contrasting color. AS didn't do these things often (though there could always be exceptions). The feet make me favor Cenedese more. They remind me of the feet of some Cenedese elephants I have. I haven't seen a pig like yours before, so my idea is only a guess. Wish we could find one with a label. Wouldn't it look wonderful in the zoo if we could?

Anita, thank you for popping in...  we (Rosie and I) were hoping you would. :)

Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about Murano/Italian glass, so I am blatantly depending on what you and other knowledgable people can tell me.  I'll take some more photographs tomorrow which will show details more clearly... maybe that will help.

I greatly appreciate your time. :hi:
