Studio vase but by whom?
« on: July 18, 2011, 06:16:54 PM »
Hi, bought this very recently because I could not leave it in the shop, but I cannot decide who made it.  Height is 11.25 inches. Thought at first it was Moncrieff but I don't know, any ideas. Regards Roger.

It's pretty colours but just looks a little heavy and I'm not sure it's a studio piece.
It does look like it could be a a modern piece to me, but I could be wrong  :-\  It reminds me a little of some Polish Makora vases and also of those vases listed as Castellani I think it is?

Interestingly enough there are what seem to be join lines down the length of both sides so how it was formed I'm not quite sure. There is a deep ground out pontil in base photo which doesn't show up too easily. Seems to be done in layers of glass, white inside then the colours applied then a clear layer.

Can you check for a signature around the bottom edge of the vase close to the base?

John

No signature. The weight is 1941 grammes. Lovely vase, maybe Murano ? I don't know if its my imagination but the glass feels slightly oily ?
