Studio Glass - Murano/Sommerso?
« on: August 11, 2011, 01:41:53 PM »
Hi guys,

I recently bought a piece of glass and I am not sure what it is. My first thought was Murano.

It is rather attractive and shaped like a tear-drop. Can anyone confirm or further this description?

Many thanks,
Jack

Looking at the matte bottom, the shape, the colours and the wobbly dividing lines, I would say not Murano and perhaps modern Chinese. There's a lot of these about in different colours. I could be wrong of course.

I have got a feeling the wobbly lines are a false impression or illusion given by the background. (I should take a better picture). Still you could be right.

Looks a lot like this one:

http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/104984058/Art_Glass_Teardrop.html

Says "Place of Origin: New York United States " but I'm assuming that's the wholesaler, probably sourced from China as Christine says, the base does give it that Chinese look.

Chinese...no distinct layers, colouring is bad and that the base is badly polished.

Well this means I certainly need to sharpen my perusing skills - It suddenly does not look like the same piece of glass.  :)
